As the new year gets underway, it’s a great time to review and update your goals—both business and personal. Why? Because the energy you put into everything you do every day and the results you get can be strengthened by aligning your efforts to your goals.
Life introduces surprises, and your focus and attention can get redirected. Your goals are your roadmap to achieving success in business and in life. It’s important to review your goals regularly to make sure they clearly state where you’re headed and why. As situations change for you, you need to modify your goals and your working plans to make sure you’re headed in your chosen direction. It’s all too easy to get sidetracked.
When you have your goals clearly in mind when you make your weekly plans, you can make sure that your actions are taking you toward success. When you own and operate your own practice, you can find yourself spending too much time doing busywork that doesn’t contribute directly to your success.
The long-term success of your business is similar to a long-term relationship. Those who have experienced a decades-long marriage can tell you that you have to create that relationship every day; you don’t just say “I do” and live happily ever after. Your business is the same. You need to review your goals and your plans, staying focused on the rewards your goals will bring you.
Set specific targets. How many appointments do you want each week? How many business cards will you hand out each day to reach new clients? What other promotional actions will you take each week or month to attract more business? How are you staying connected to your clients?
